The system transmits ANI and DNIS digits to the HCI software application. ANI digits are sent to the party_info.calling_line_id.network.format.main_dn field; DNIS digits are sent to the party_info.orig_dialed_digits field.
The ANI feature can be used by HOST COMMAND INTERFACE (HCI) based software applications to provide immediate access to a database of customer information.
For example, a telemarketing company creates a computer database of information on frequent customers. Information, such as the customer's name, address, account number, account balance, credit rating, pending orders, etc. is stored in a file against the customer's directory number. When a customer calls, the customer's directory number— the ANI number— is sent through the HCI link to the computer. The computer uses the directory number to retrieve and display the customer's file. The agent answering the call refers to the computer screen for information on the caller.
